Increase of foreign tourists’ influx brought more revenues in the Albanian economy


The increase of foreign tourists’ influx in the first months of this year has brought more revenues into the Albanian economy. According to the Bank of Albania data, the tourist expenses in Albania were 331 million Euros in the first quarter of the year, an increase of almost 10% compared to the same period last year.Previous INSTAT data shows a significant increase in the inflows of foreign tourists in our country, as Albania is becoming more and more a favorite tourist destination. Only in the first four months of the year, 1 million people entered Albania, increased by 7% compared to the same period of 2017.On the other hand, the number of the Albanian citizens leaving our country in the first quarter 2018 is 1,563,003, up 5.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.Even for the year 2017, the data of the Bank of Albania show that the expenditures of Albanians abroad and foreigners in Albania have reached record levels.Foreigners have brought about 1.7 billion Euros in Albania, an increase of 11.7% compared to 2016. The highest inflow was in the second and third quarters, i.e. 421 and 588 million Euros, which coincides with the peak tourist season (May-September).In total about 1.3 billion Euros went abroad in 2017in the form of expenses of those who traveled, an increase of 11% compared to the previous year. As in the case of foreigners, the highest expenditures were in the second and third quarter, respectively by 341 and 407 million Euros.The net balance, therefore, the difference between the money entering Albania by foreigners and those going abroad by Albanian travelers, reached a positive record of 445 million ALL./Klara Ruci/
