Imported red potato, now cultivated in Divjaka

Wise, hard working and skilled Divjaka farmers are overtaking the tradition of cultivating typical Albanian agricultural products by expanding it with other products of innovation known to Albanian consumers from foreign markets or import products.Red potato costs more than white and russet potatoes and its nutritional values are greater. Therefore, this fact is a major impetus for the Albanian farmers to cultivate red potatoes. Because of their waxy texture, the flesh of red potatoes stays firm throughout the cooking process, whether they are being roasted or cooked in a stew or they can be served baked. The red potato is an excellent source of potassium and vitamin C. In Albania they are also called new potatoes. Currently, this particular variety for the Albanian products is cultivated in Divjaka. /Klara Ruci/
