About 81% of vehicles registered in our country for 2017 and the first two months of 2018 are produced before 2009, while only 19% of them have been produced in the last 10 years. According to the data of the General Directorate of Road Transport Services, 52,250 vehicles were registered for this period, out of which 42,625 are older than 10 years.
It is precisely this category of vehicles, expected to no longer be allowed to be imported into Albania, thus bringing significant changes in this market. Based on the draft decision issued for consultation by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the cars produced no more than 10 years before the date of their first registration will be allowed in Albania.
Meanwhile, vehicles, which have already entered the Albanian territory but have not completed the registration procedures, have a deadline until December 31, 2018, to carry out the necessary procedures.
Exceptions to this rule will only be made for the old vehicles of historic interest and collection, such as vehicles produced until December 1970. However, for Albania, few are those who own such vehicles, only 11 of them were registered last year.
