For two days the city of Shkodra has celebrated the carnivals. This event occurs during the first days of March. School children and students wearing elaborated costumes and masks performed at the square in front of the municipality, creating a festive atmosphere. The most interesting part of the feast was the interpretation of witches at the square, through which the orators conveyed messages to the leaders of the government, using expressions of social satire; mockery of authorities. During the celebrations, the scarecrow a symbol of negative phenomena, was placed at Mother Teresa Square, where it was set ablaze. “Carnival 2019” marks the 20th anniversary of the celebrations in democracy and 158 years of this tradition in Shkodra.
