Acting Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj kicked off an official visit in the US to attend the NATO Ministerial and have a series of bilateral meetings with senior US representatives.
Cakaj had a meeting with Senator Ron Johnson, Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Co-operation and Congressman Lee Zeldin. During these meetings, senior US officials discussed with Minister of State Cakaj about the latest developments in Albania, its efforts in the framework of negotiations for opening negotiations and its important role in the Western Balkans.
The focus of these meetings was also Albania’s preparations for taking the upcoming OSCE rotating Chairmanship in 2020, lobbying for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council and its commitments within the Atlantic Alliance the North.
Senator Ron Johnson and Congressman Lee Zeldin praised and endorsed the reforms undertaken by Albania which would pave the way to the opening of negotiations in June 2019.US officials expressed their willingness to back up Albania along the European integration process and enhance bilateral contacts in the interest of boosting the relations between our two countries.
