Albanian servicewoman Hasanaj killed while dismantling unexploded ordnance in Latvia

A grave incident occurred Monday morning in Latvia where the Albanian Armed Forces are being represented with a military contingent within the NATO “Enhanced Forward Presence “mission. According to the Albanian General Staff Chief, General Brigadier Bardhyl Kollcaku, the servicewoman Zarife Muharrem Hasanaj, of the ammunition destruction contingent was killed and two others Major Klodian Nikolla Tanushi and Sergeant Julian Xhevat Kapaj were seriously injured while dismantling unexploded ordnance. The incident occurred during the operations at the NATO base where a military exercise was conducted by one of the allies. Albanian authorities are holding constant contact with the highest Latvian authorities and Allies on mission. They expressed condolences to the family of Zarife Hasanaj who lost her life while on duty and wished a quick recovery to Major Klodian Tanushin and Sergeant Julian Kapaj. Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš expressed condolences for the loss of Albanian servicewoman Zarife Hasanaj during NATO’s mission.
