INSTAT: Population growth heading towards zero

Population growth in the first quarter of this year heading towards  zero.The number of births fell by 10.1% compared to the first quarter of last year. INSTAT data for the first quarter indicate the number of births for the first quarter of 2019 resulting in 5,986, marking a decrease of 10,1% compared to the first quarter 2018. The number of deaths for the first quarter 2019 turns out to be 5,949, marking a decrease of 5.7%, compared with the first quarter 2018.During the first trimester 2019, the number of births exceeds 37 deaths. In a quarter of a year earlier, the population growth was about 400 people. In the first quarter of 2019, natural growth of the population in the 12 districts of Albania marked the highest value in Tirana, where the number of births exceeds 562 deaths. In the first quarter of 2019, natural growth records negative values ​​in 8 regions.The lowest figure is recorded in the district of Korça, where the number of deaths exceeds 191 births.The highest number of births for the first quarter of 2019 is recorded in the Tirana district, with 1,985 births, which decreased by 9.4% compared to the first quarter of 2018. The lowest number of births for the first quarter 2019 is recorded in the county of Gjirokastra, with 97 births, reflecting a fall of 21,8 %, as compared to the first quarter of 2018.
