Tirana and Lund Municipality in Sweden will launch a new cooperation relationship in the field of innovation technology. The head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, received in a meeting his Swedish counterpart, Philip Sandberg, whom he presented the Clock Tower as a welcoming sign .
Mayor Philip Sandberg was impressed by the profound transformation that Tirana had undergone since his first visit. “I am very happy to meet Tirana mayor, Erion Veliaj, and see the changes made here. When I was in Tirana for the last time there was a lot of traffic, the square was a huge roundabout area. Now I see that the plan for the city is mostly based on people, trees, and suburban streets, just like in Sweden. We too have worked hard there to plan for the city that focuses on people, not cars. I am very impressed with this work, I hope to continue and make this city friendly to visitors and foreigners visiting Tirana. It is a pleasure to see that there have been so many changes, “he said.
Mayor Veliaj underscored that a concrete idea of cooperation between the two cities will be the Pyramid project, which will turn into the largest innovation center in the region. “The city of Lund is an example in Europe on how it works in terms of urban planning, but also for all the innovation encouraged in recent years. It is one of the most progressive cities in Europe today. So I believe that a concrete idea where we can work with the mayor is our Pyramid project, “he said.
As a sign of friendship and cooperation between the two cities, the head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj and the Mayor of Lund, Philip Sandberg, planted a tree in the Europe Park .
