The Albanian Railway has allotted 1.5m Euros as a limit fund for the supervision of the Tirana-Durres railway rehabilitation works and the construction of a new line with Tirana International Airport. Referring to the procedure announced a few weeks ago on the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development website the procedure remains open until the 9th of August. The requirements about the consultant to carry out the supervision will also be made clear. Available funding is 100% provided by the European Union through the Western Balkans Investment Framework.
Thus the consultant will support the Albanian Railways as an engineering supervisor as specified in the contract. It will also support the Albanian Railway to fulfill its obligations in terms of implementation, monitoring.
Referring to the details given in the announcement of the procedure it is underlined that the task of the supervisor starts on October 31, 2019 and is expected to last 44 months.
The total cost of the project is estimated at 90.45 million Euros. Part of this is also the fund granted by the European Western Balkans Joint Fund to the authorities in the amount of EUR 35,435,000. The rest of the financing is through an EBRD loan of € 36.8 million and € 16 million is financed by the Albanian government.
