Finnish Foreign Minister Haavisto: Expectations to move forward with the launch of talks with North Macedonia and Albania

After a meeting with his European counterparts, who discussed about Albania and North Macedonia facing delays to launch membership negotiations, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto stated that his European Union colleagues are very hopeful that they will move towards membership talks with Albania and North Macedonia, no deadline has been set though. “In my opinion, there were positive expectations that at some point we would move forward with the launch of talks with North Macedonia and Albania,” Haavisto told reporters, but did not say which countries were more optimistic. Some EU states have said that Albania needs to do more to fight organized crime and corruption and strengthen the rule of law.
