Speaker of Parliament, Gramoz Ruci, had a meeting with the rectors of the universities of the country to make a balance of the cooperation Parliament – universities.
The meeting took place in the framework of agreements signed a year ago, to discuss some of the needs ahead of the new academic year, some issues of university perspective, higher education and research as well as the program of activities for 100th anniversary of Albanian parliament.
The Albanian Parliament and 24 universities and research institutions, 12 public and non-public universities, signed the Cooperation Agreements in October-November 2018.
Ruci stated that “these agreements are intended to promote research and analytical work in the function of parliamentary democracy; enhancing students’ knowledge and capacity on parliamentarism; improving public perception and better understanding of the functions of the Albanian Parliament; supporting educational institutions in fulfilling their functions in the context of implementing the legislation in force on higher education ”.
In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Albanian Parliament, the Parliamentary Bureau has adopted a program of activities, on which the Assembly has required the cooperation of universities. One of the activities will be to award “100 Years of Albanian Parliament” scholarships to some of the best students of public and non-public universities.
In this context, Ruci called on universities to include some of the funds they thought you would program for these purposes into this Assembly program activity.
At the end of the meeting, the Speaker of Parliament underlined that “The contribution of universities and academics is welcomed both for the law-making process, as well as for parliamentary control and monitoring of independent institutions,” he said.
