EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn and European Union High Representative Federica Mogherini have reacted to the process of Sunday’s snap parliamentary elections in Kosovo.
Hahn and Mogherini have described the elections as peaceful, calling for a new government as soon as possible.
“Peaceful elections were held on October 6 in Kosovo. The EU wants the new government to be formed as soon as possible, once all legal procedures are complete. This is important in order for Kosovo to continue to work on economic and social reforms, the rule of law and the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, ”reads the joint statement.
Hahn and Mogherini expect political actors to remain committed to these processes, which they see as key to Kosovo’s progress on the European path. Hahn and Mogherini emphasize the importance of the EU mission in Kosovo during these elections.
“According to the EU mission, the elections were well administered and transparent. The campaign was challenging in Kosovo, but there were some irregularities in Serb-populated areas, ”the statement said.
Mogherini and Hahn have announced that the EU will formulate a report with recommendations for future elections in Kosovo. According to the press release, the EU is ready to assist in this process.
