The Minister of Interior, Sandër Lleshaj, paid an official visit to Italy, where he met with the Italian Minister of Interior, Ms. Luciana Lamorgese. Minister Lleshaj introduced her with the progress made by Albania in the fight against organized crime, cash seizure linked to criminal conduct, as well as work to apprehend wanted persons for the sake of justice in both countries.
The Italian Minister of Interior Lamorgese praised the work and results of the Albanian side highlighting that, ‘Italy supports the increase of projects for the Albanian Police for training, capacity building and striking force.’
After the meeting, where the Director of the Criminal Police Department, Tonin Vocaj, was also present, Minister Lleshaj stated that we discussed with the Italian Minister of Interior about the European perspective of Albania and the level of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The bilateral relationship between Albania and Italy is quite high. We identified important areas of cooperation, such as the fight against organized crime, the fight against trafficking, illegal migration and other issues.
Also of great importance was the discussion we had with the Minister regarding the development of Albania’s capacities in the field of Civil Emergencies and mainly in fire protection. This area will receive a high priority in the future, and the training of Albanian Police officers in Italian educational institutions will be another important development direction.
