OSCE willing to cooperate with the government to improve the legislation on Media

Harlem Désir , OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, received from the Office of the President of the Republic of Albania, Ilir Meta, explanatory documents on the reasons for the return to Parliament of the laws on Audiovisual Media and the Law on Electronic Communication in the Republic of Albania.

OSCE representative confirms that he is ready to continue to work with the Albanian authorities to improve the laws, especially on the issue of the level of fines and respect for the principle of proportionality as provided for in international law.

Mr. Désir recalls that nothing in the new legislation should impede freedom of expression and freedom of the media. He hopes that the new review of the laws  in Parliament will allow further clarification and improve the laws to ensure their full compliance with international standards and OSCE commitments.
