Three euro deputies ask Albanian Parliament to approve the June 5 agreement on electoral reform as soon as possible

The Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs David McAllister (EPP, DE), the Permanent Rapporteur for Albania Isabel Santos (S&D, PT) and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Delegation for Albania Manolis Kefalogiannis (EPP, EL) asked the Albanian Parliament to approve as soon as possible the June 5 agreement on electoral reform.
“We expect the parliamentary majority to approve the necessary changes without damaging the consensus reached between the government and the opposition on June 5. “Changing the agreement without reaching a consensus with all political parties could jeopardize the convening of the first conference for membership negotiations, and therefore slow down the European integration process,” a joint statement said.
“The European Parliament is committed to supporting Albania on its path to European integration and is ready to work with the Albanian Parliament to facilitate dialogue and build consensus on fundamental reforms in the areas of democracy, rule of law and accountability that are necessary for the future of the country in the EU ”underlines the statement.
