The great Albanian writer, playwright and screenwriter Dhimitër Xhuvani was born on May 23, 1934 in Pogradec. After graduating from medical high school, Dhimitër Xhuvani would work for a while in the rural hospitals of Gramshi, Peqini and Librazhdi. He continued his higher studies at the Faculty of History and Philology in Tirana and then studied at the Gorky Institute in Moscow.

But in addition to the professions of journalist, teacher and editor, Dhimitër Xhuvani has also worked as an assembler, electrician or welder.

It was his book "Tunnel" published in 1966, which would receive numerous criticisms in the press of that time, so the dictatorial regime decided to send the great writer for "re-education" in the construction of the Bistrica Hydropower Plant where he was forced to perform hard work.

Dhimitër Xhuvani is the father of screenwriter, director and producer Gjergj Xhuvani, who passed away in 2019, at the age of 56.

Some of his most famous works are "The Last Bells" (1958), "Between Two Nights" (1962), "The Tunnel" (1966), "On foot Again" (1970), "Fan Smiley" (1971) , "The Awakening of Nebi Surreli" (1976), "We will live differently" (1979), "The death of Mr. Kaloti" (1981), "My world" (1984), "Forgotten love", 2007.

But Xhuvani is also the screenwriter of a series of famous films such as "Dear Enemy", "Funeral Business", "Last Love", "A Day in a Life", "Hope", "Whiteness", "Chronicle of Those Nights"," Uninterrupted melody "," No time to lose "," Beyond the stone walls "," Alleys that sought the sun "," Grooves "," Morning of war “, “The fitter”.

Dhimiter Xhuvani passed away in 2009.
