About 30 thousand citizens of Kosovo spent their weekend in Albania

About 30 thousand citizens of Kosovo spent Friday and Saturday in Albania. Those who did not have this opportunity, however, have used parks and squares to spend warm days. Kosovo, from April 7, has started implementing new measures for protection against COVID-19.

The mitigation of anti-Covid measures in Albania and their tightening in Kosovo has caused about 30 thousand citizens from Kosovo to spend the weekend in Albania.

In the last 24 hours alone, 15,000 Kosovo citizens have crossed the Kosovo-Albania border. According to the Kosovo Police, in just 24 hours between Saturday and Sunday, over 28 thousand citizens have left Kosovo, to neighboring countries (Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia).

From this number, 15 thousand citizens, during these 24 hours, have crossed the western borders of Kosovo, where is the border crossing of Morina, which connects Kosovo and Albania. This influx of Kosovo citizens towards Albania, during the weekend, was made at a time when Government measures are being applied in Kosovo to prevent and fight the coronavirus, which include the restriction of free movement from 22:00 to at 5:00, except in emergencies. According to the National Institute of Public Health, on Sunday, April 11, Kosovo registered 12 victims and 529 new cases of COVID-19.

Kosovo registered the first cases of coronavirus on March 13, 2020. Since then, a total of 97,996 cases have been registered, of which 1,988 cases have ended in fatality. 13,944 cases continue to be active.
