Luiza Gega closes its representation in "Tokyo 2020", ranked 13th in the 3000m steeplechase final. Albania competed for the first time in the final of an athletic competition in an Olympics thanks to Luiza Gega. The athlete closed the 13th race reaching the time of 9: 34.10 far from the time that had brought her to the final 9: 23.85. Anyway Gega's appearance was much better than in Rio 2016 and she made history anyway. Albania also closes its participation in the Tokyo Olympics better than in Rio but we still can not secure an Olympic medal.
Albania was represented in the Tokyo Olympics with 9 athletes in five different disciplines. The best result was achieved by Briken Calja who was ranked fourth in weightlifting in body weight up to 73 kg. Calja closed the race with 341 kg just one kg away from the Olympic medal, marking a historic result for Albania. The other weightlifter Erkand Qerimaj won the B group weighing up to 81 kg but closed the Olympics in 9th place. Gymnast Matvei Petrov could not be qualified for the final in pommel horse. Even the athlete Izmir Smajlaj could not reach the final of the long jump discipline, ranking in 18th place. Swimmers Kledi Kadiu and Nikol Merizaj were eliminated in the first rounds. The judoka Indrit Çullhaj, who was injured in the first race, and the shooter Manuela Delilaj made modest appearances. The story was made by Kosovo that grabbed two gold medals in judo with Distria Krasniqi and Nora Gjakova, leading to three gold medals after that of Majlinda Kelmendi in Rio 2016.
