Albania has been hit by heavy rainfalls and severe flooding in several areas especially the lowland. A meeting was held last night at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) with the Regional Directorates of Irrigation and Drainage (RDID), as responsible institutions for water infrastructure in country.
The announcement published on the official website of the Minister of Economy states that the high alert of the system was the main topic of the discussions and coordination with other responsible structures such as Prefectures, Municipalities and Electricity Distribution Operator is the most urgent step in dealing with this situation.
"At the moment it is very important that hydropower plants throughout the country are uninterruptedly supplied with electricity and RDID to coordinate in identifying any problems arising from weather difficulties and to address them without wasting time. In her speech, the Minister of Economy returned the tour to attention of the meetings of the first week of work, with the respective tasks left for each region that the infrastructure of hydropower plants, first canals and drainage system be able to withstand this period of intense rainfall. Communication will continue and the maximum readiness of structures in the ground," is said in the announcement.
