Butrinti, a revival of the touristic destination after the COVID pandemic

The ancient city of Butrint, 20 km from Saranda, continues to be one of the favorite destinations of domestic and foreign tourists. This park offers a considerable number of archeological sites and is considered a "micro-world of Albanian history". Dorina Dhima, tourism specialist in Butrint National Park, said that the ancient city of Butrint and its archeological museum in the first 6 months of 2021 were visited by 10,246 local and foreign visitors."

"In the first 6 months of 2020 the park was visited by 3007 visitors, a number lower compared to previous years due to the COVID-19  pandemic," said Dhima. According to her, the figures this year are more positive. Dhima says that in June 2020 the park was visited by 1539 visitors. While this year it was visited by 5352 visitors. "Even these data are more than 3 times compared to last year." Butrint today is an architectural complex with 15 areas of different periods, from the IV century BC to the XVI century AD.

The historical significance of Butrint is extraordinary and being able to walk is a privilege: the white stone statue from the era of Augustus Octavian, Agrippa, Antiochus, Serapis, Livia Drusilas once stood here, as well as the birthplace of many citizens prominent at different times or Roman generals during the bright era of the empire when the city was called "Colonia Augusta Buthrotum" (Colony Augustiane Butrinti) ./ ATSH /
