The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Luigi Di Maio, has once again confirmed the support of Italy in the integration processes of Albania in the European path.
In his speech today at the round table on "Fight against corruption and justice reform as an impetus for Albania's economic growth", Di Maio assessed that the fight against corruption is a key component in the country's progress towards the EU.
"I express here the support of Italy for the path of European integration of Albania. And in this regard the fight against corruption is one of the main conditions. Corruption undermines the relationship between institutions, undermines the roots of the rule of law, as well as the credibility of the people in the system. Corruption further increases inequality, capital flight and does not encourage citizens to contribute to the development of the country. The pandemic has also slowed down efforts to fight corruption. We are also committed within the OSCE to fight corruption more by developing effective strategies. Albania and Italy have cooperated a lot, both bilaterally and multilaterally. We will support Albania in this challenge as well, this is closely related to our great support for your journey in the European Union. Albania and Italy walk together. Together we can look with confidence towards the EU," Di Maio said.
