Imports of edible fruits and nuts (where a significant portion is occupied by bananas) from Latin American countries have marked a significant increase in recent years.
This trend has been strengthened in the first 7 months of this year.
INSTAT data show that Ecuador has become for the first time the main trading partner of Albania for the chapter of "edible fruits and nuts" in the first 7 months of 2021, passing to Greece, which was traditionally the country from where we imported more of these products.
Compared to 2015, imports of this chapter from Ecuador have doubled, reaching ALL 1.6 billion for January-July 2021, or 38% of the total (in 2015, this share was 23%). Other data from Comtrade, referring to 2020, show that most of the "Liquid Fruits and Nuts" chapter consists of bananas.
Edible fruits and nuts accounted for 84% of Ecuador's imports. The second product is "Fish and underwater shellfish", with 13% of the total.
