Germany guarantees support for North Macedonia and Albania for EU integration. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas is not in favor of separating Albania from North Macedonia in the EU membership process.
In a joint press conference with his counterpart from North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, Maas said that the Portuguese presidency should open membership conferences as soon as possible, both for North Macedonia and Albania.
"This is a discussion we have had before, but in the past these places have not been divided and it has been okay. We support the Portuguese presidency to find a solution to bilateral issues as soon as possible, in order to open membership conferences as soon as possible, both for North Macedonia and for Albania. We do not intend to separate them," said Maas.
Today, foreign media in Brussels announced that the holding of the first intergovernmental conference on the negotiations between Albania and North Macedonia could be held in June, which marks the most important step for the country's EU integration.
