Presidents, Prime Ministers, officials and experts from the Western Balkans and the EU gathered this week for the Prespa Forum Dialogue 2021, hosted by the Government of North Macedonia.
The Conference, titled “Western Balkans: The Missing Puzzle for Completing Europe” is taking place in the Ohrid-Prespa region.
The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama is taking part in this Forum. Rama addressed a speech reiterating that Europe cannot show what needs to be done in the region, so countries must unite and not wait until they become EU members. Mr Rama added that it's no longer in the hands of Albania and North Macedonia but neither can these countries be packed and loaded on a ship heading to the EU.
"Whether we will be part of the EU or not is not up to us, it is not in our hands, we are not the ones who decide. However we can do a lot of work, we can cooperate, we can put pressure on the issues to be better for the improvement of our economies, for the creation of spaces for entrepreneurs, our young people. We are small, but united we are reasonably large enough. Thank God that on the one hand Europe can not tell us what to do in this region, we can make life easier for all the people who live here through our actions. Why should we expect to become EU members to trade without barriers, " said Rama.
