The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivier Varhelyi, requested today that the first Intergovernmental Conferences with Albania and Northern Macedonia be held this year. Commissioner Varhelyi attended today the meeting of the Ministers of European Affairs, where within the German presidency reported the German Minister for European Affairs, Michael Roth.
In a Twitter post, Varhelyi stressed that work on approving negotiating frameworks for Albania and northern Macedonia should continue. "In the video meeting of European Ministers today: Work must continue and it is important that the negotiating frameworks with Albania and Northern Macedonia be agreed as soon as possible so that the first Intergovernmental Conferences are held this year," he said.
"Everyone must continue their efforts to resolve outstanding issues. "I am in contact with the German Presidency of the EU and all relevant parties in support of finding a solution," said Varhelyi.
