Technology giant Facebook has said that political parties in Albania should be more transparent in how they finance their political ads through the sites they have, before next month's elections.
A Facebook statement said that starting from Thursday, "all election and political advertisements in Albania must be made by authorized advertisers and have the inscription 'paid by'".
Albania will hold parliamentary elections on April 25th.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the election campaign is expected to take place across social networks.
The country is implementing strict measures against the pandemic, including curfew, mandatory masking and banning of more than 10 people.
Since June 2019, Facebook has operationalized transparency opportunities around the world, enabling advertisers to be empowered in order to create ads.
Elections in Albania have always been contested for irregularities, including allegations of vote-buying and manipulation of the counting process.
