Museums are among the main centers for tourism development, while their good administration is in the attention of the municipality of Gjirokastra. Although a difficult year due to the covid-19 pandemic, the museums operating in Gjirokastra have been visited by a significant number of domestic and foreign tourists, with the highest number being locals. According to statistics, the weapons museum alone has been visited by about 3,000 tourists over the past year.
"It was a difficult year, not only for Gjirokastra but for the whole country. Of course, it reflected the consequences in Gjirokastra as well. Meanwhile, it is known that the tourism of Gjirokastra is of seasonal nature, where it has its peak in the summer period. However, we are noticing that even in winter it has started to have a high number of visitors. In this period, the visitors were mainly locals, but we also had foreigners. During 2020, we only had 3,000 visitors in the weapons museum ", says Besnik Shehu, in charge of the weapons museum.
Currently in the city of Gjirokastra there are several museums such as the Museum of Weapons, "Kadare House", etc.…, which are important points for the development of tourism.
