INSTAT postponed the Census of Agriculture to 2024, which was originally scheduled to take place in 2022.

The Institute of Statistics has postponed the Census of Agriculture to 2024, which was originally was scheduled to take place in 2022.

This census is seen in relation to that of the population who also suffered a push from the initial planning that was 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. In its annual document INSTAT underlines that the Population Census that will take place in October 2022 requires maximum commitment of human and operational resources and makes it impossible to hold the Census of Agriculture in the same year.

INSTAT, during 2020, in cooperation with international expertise, has reviewed the module of questions which are included in the questionnaire of the next Census of Population and Housing, in order to update the list of agricultural farms. The updated list of farms will be the framework for the next Census of agricultural holdings.

In this initiative INSTAT envisages to be supported by donors and in terms of strategic documents is supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The preparatory work that INSTAT has carried out during 2020 includes the effort to find possible financial resources to support the "Drafting of Strategy and Action Plan for the Agricultural Census". The drafting of the strategy will serve to plan and detail the most important elements of the project, as well as to prepare the regulatory framework and evaluate the resources and actors that will be further involved. This effort was finalized at the end of 2020, with an agreement with FAO to support the drafting of strategic documents for the Cens of Agriculture, ”the document reads.
