Bulgaria has formally asked EU member states to separate Albania from North Macedonia in terms of the integration process.
Klan News reports that Bulgaria wants Albania to be judged on its own merits and to continue on the path to integration.
"North Macedonia still does not meet the criteria for holding the first Intergovernmental Conference," reads a reaction from the Bulgarian government.
This proposal was also made by the Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi.
The decision to open negotiations with North Macedonia has stalled in the EU Council, as Bulgaria has vetoed disagreements with official Skopje.
However, despite the idea of splitting the two countries for the integration process, some EU member states have opposed the opening of negotiations only for Albania.
