Kosovo today celebrates the 13th anniversary of the declaration of independence, two days after the parliamentary elections, where Self-Determination Movement, led by Albin Kurti won convincingly.
On February 17, 2008, the then deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo declared the country an independent, sovereign and democratic state. This act was challenged by Serbia, which also requested an assessment of legality by the International Court of Justice. In July 2010, this court found that Kosovo's Declaration of Independence had not violated international law.
From 1999, when Kosovo was liberated from Serbia until the declaration of Independence, the country was administered by the mission of the United Nations UNMIK, while having in parallel its democratic institutions - the Assembly, the President and the Government.
On this day a series of activities were organized by its central and local institutions.
Ceremonies in honor of this day will begin with the raising of the state flag by the Ceremonial Guard of the KSF in the courtyard of the Office of the Prime Minister, which will be attended by Acting President Vjosa Osmani and caretaker Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti.
The central event will be held in Pristina, while under the auspices of the acting The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, a state reception will be held.
During the day they will pay homage to the statue of the legendary KLA commander Adem Jashari in Prekaz and Skenderaj, the statue of Zahir Pajaziti in Pristina, the cemetery of martyrs in Gllogjan, Recak and the grave of former President Ibrahim Rugova.
Sports activities will also be held such as the Independence Race-Gymnastics Federation in Prishtina, the Independence Tournament-Wrestling Federation, Independence Tournament - Ping-Pong Federation Prishtina and Independence Run - Athletic Federation.
In honor of the 13th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of Kosovo "Life and work of Sali Çeku exhibition " will be opened and the awarding ceremony of annual prizes for literature by MRKS in Pristina will be held.
In honor of the 13th anniversary of Kosovo's Independence, the Municipality of Prizren holds a solemn meeting and awards the decoration "Honor of the City" to the former member of the Assembly of Kosovo Bujar Gjurgjeala, while solemn meetings will be held in the Municipality of Skenderaj, Podujeva and other municipalities.
