The High Representative of the European Union, Josep Borrell, stated that solving the problems in the Balkans is a responsibility of the European Union, and that the global role of the EU also depends on this. "If we can not solve the problems in the Balkans, then how can we be an important global actor," said Borell.
He made the remarks in a debate marking the tenth anniversary of the creation of the EU External Action Service, a kind of joint European diplomatic service, attended by two of his predecessors, Javier Solana and Federica Mogherini.
Borrell spoke about the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia and reiterated that this problem should be resolved within the European perspective. On the other hand, he also welcomed the readiness of the United States to assist in this process.
"We are glad that the US wants to help, but it is the EU that is leading the process. Only the EU can make a significant contribution to the people there and that is the European perspective. "The problem must be solved within this perspective," Borell said. He once again expressed satisfaction with the resumption of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, since the beginning of his term.
