On the occasion of the 101st birth anniversary of the prominent erudite, poet, scholar, historian and translator Vexhi Buharaja, a literary contest was organized for the best translator and poet of the year.
In the contest with essays, poetry and translations, the jury composed of well-known names of literature and journalism Ymer Çiraku, Alda Bardhuli, Aleksandër Cipa, Bujar Xhaferri, Yzedin Hima awarded the prizes for the best translator, poet and essay for 2021.
Writers Visar Zhiti and Artan Sadiku were praised for the best literary work in translation, while Alban Tufa and Alma Zenellari were awarded the prize in the genre of poetry.
"The price of translation is an important price. I would like to congratulate the Municipality of Berat that has turned this city into an important center and hearth for the literary scenes in the country, keeping alive the memory of a character who has given so much to the Albanian culture with this contets that really had a very high quality input. Such activities serve as an incentive for new talents, in the field of study or that of poetry. I hope that this activity will have a long life ", said Alda Bardhyli.
The "Vexhi Buharaja" award is given every year by the Municipality of Berat and cultural institutions in honor of the figure of the famous poet and translator Vexhi Buharaja who was born in May 1920 in Berat and passed away on July 5, 1987.
