The first intergovernmental conference on the negotiations between Albania and North Macedonia may be held in June. The news was given by the international media stationed in Brussels.
Although a clear date has not yet been set, as the legal framework is expected to be approved by the European Council.
Commissioner Ana Pisonero during a conference today and for Report TV also emphasizes once again that the EC is ready and has given all the recommendations for such a step.
"What I can say is what the commission has said for a long time that we can not wait for the first intergovernmental conference with Albania and North Macedonia to be held as soon as possible. This has been the position of the Commission from the beginning. To achieve this, the Council must agree on a Framework for Negotiations. Our official position is that such a conference be held as soon as possible," said Ana Pisonero.
The holding of the First Intergovernmental Conference marks the most important step for the country's EU integration. As for Albania, the Commission and the European Parliament have recommended its holding, but the obstacle has always been in the European Council, where some leaders have refused to open negotiations for our country. Taking such a seat requires a unanimous decision of the 27 member states.
