During the works for the reconstruction of the square "Cerciz Topulli" in Gjirokastra, medieval fortification walls have emerged belonging to the XVII century and the beginning of the XVIII century. After these important archeological discoveries, the works have been stopped and a decision is expected from the National Council of Archeology.
Important archeological structures were discovered during the works in “Cerciz Topulli” Square in Gjirokastra. Medieval fortification walls, traces of ceramics, skeletal materials that according to specialists belong to the XVII century early XVIII century have come to light for several days leading to the temporary suspension of works for the Urban Renaissance project in the museum center of Gjirokastra.
The file with the found data has gone to the National Council of Archeology which will determine the importance of the discovery and the measures to be taken. Earlier, medieval wells were found in the depths.
According to the project "Sheshi Cerçiz Topulli"square is conceived to be entirely for pedestrians while there will be underground parking.
