The Chairwoman of the Foreign Policy Committee, Mimi Kodheli, was re-elected Vice President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
The annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly took place in Lisbon on October 8-11, during which Mimi Kodheli was unanimously re-elected vice-president of this Assembly.
The commissions held meetings during the first two days of the activity discussing and analyzing the reports and resolutions prepared by the rapporteurs. Guests were experts in the field as well as Portuguese political leaders.
The Annual Session also concluded with a plenary session chaired by NATO President and Congressman Gerry Connolly, to which NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi were invited. The Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister and President of Portugal as well as Dr. Karen Donfrey, Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Asia at the State Department.
The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, was announced the winner of the "Women for Peace and Security 2021" award, an award given for the first time by the Assembly. During her speech as a special guest of this session in Lisbon, Pelosi said that the prioritization of women's education remains one of the pillars of her daily work. She concluded by saying that the US believes that women can do it and that is why the US does it.
Discussions of this session focused on topics such as Afghanistan, the NATO Strategic Concept 2030, the post-election situation in Russia and the situation in the Middle East.
