The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that he had a telephone conversation with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, regarding the assistance that Kosovo has provided in sheltering Afghans who were evacuated from Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the country.
"Kosovo is honored to provide a safe environment for Afghan citizens during their transition. "Our alliance with the United States is unwavering and our friendship is becoming stronger," said Kurti through a post on the social network Twitter. He added that Secretary Blinken expressed his gratitude to Kosovo on behalf of US President Joe Biden for cooperation and assistance. Contacts between Kosovo state leaders and those of the United States have intensified since groups of Afghans evacuated from Afghanistan began arriving in Kosovo.
On September 2, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, had a telephone conversation with the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.
The White House said in a statement that Vice President Harris expressed gratitude to the United States for assisting Kosovo in its evacuation efforts from Afghanistan.
