The meeting in the Presidency between the US Ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim, and the leaders of Albanian politics, President Ilir Meta, Prime Minister Edi Rama, the leader of the Democrats Lulzim Basha and other members of the government cabinet was held yesterday.
The National Security Meeting was convened by the Head of State, Ilir Meta, where they discussed the "preparatory measures related to the final phase of body training, codenamed" Defender Europe 21 / DE21 ", planned to take place in our region, including Albania, from May 1 to June 14, 2021 ”.
Among other things, President Meta stressed the importance and the great impact that this exercise will have on increasing the interoperability between the military structures of different allied countries, as well as on strengthening peace, stability and security in the region and beyond.
"The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, in the capacity of the Chairman of the National Security Council, convened today a Meeting of Senior National Security Officers, to discuss the preparatory measures regarding the final phase of the troop training, codenamed “Defender Europe 21 / DE21 ”, planned to take place in our region, including Albania, from May 1 to June 14, 2021.
Present at the meeting were the Prime Minister, Edi Rama, the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, members of the government and heads of law enforcement and security agencies in the country. The meeting was also attended by the US Ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, as well as senior leaders of the US Army in Europe.
The Defender Europe 21 troop exercise is led by US Army Europe Command. In terms of the number of troops participating, it is the largest exercise in which the troops of our Armed Forces are involved. Troops from 26 allied countries will take part in the exercise. "Defender Europe 21" will be extended to several countries in our region.
The purpose of this meeting was to coordinate the precautionary measures, with the clear objective that the concluding phase of this great exercise be realized with complete success.
In this meeting, President Meta thanked the United States of America and its representatives in Tirana, for their unstinting support for our country in all aspects, especially in the field of defense and security.
"NATO and the strategic partnership with the US are very important for Albania and the Balkans. "The trust of the Albanian people and the support for them are unanimous, as well as the European vocation of the Albanians", said President Meta.
