Prime Minister Edi Rama has disclosed a part of the discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy Luigi di Maio during the joint press conference.
Rama said that in the meeting they talked about the cooperation between the two countries and the topic that requires immediate commitment is that of the partnership for the investment plan for the Balkans where the expertise of Italy is required.
"Today we talked with the minister about the important topic of cooperation. The strategic partnership declaration was signed 10 years ago . We want to further institutionalize this partnership in the function of dialogue and specific topics. The topic we will immediately engage in is the theme of the partnership in relation to the investment plan for the Balkans, which has three main pillars, transport and infrastructure, energy and digitalization. In the first two pillars, Italy has valuable expertise in the international arena and has the will to be with us.
Sooner or later, together with the Minister, we will determine the strategic partners in this path that will assist us with their expertise for the projects and the access to the financing of this EU fund ", said the Prime Minister.
Rama personally thanked Minister Di Maio and said that he was an advocate for the integration of Albania and the Western Balkans. He further spoke about the issue of negotiations, about a stalemate between Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
"Lastly, I want to thank the Minister personally because despite the fact that I have no reason to forget the commitment of his predecessors in this task, he is personally committed to be an excellent advocate for the integration of Albania and the Western Balkans. We also talked about this station where things are complicated at the moment, from a moment of stalemate between Bulgaria and North Macedonia, while the negotiating framework with both countries at the EU level is being discussed," Rama declared.
