Saranda is crossed by five parallel streets, which are like the lines of a penta-gram of music. Saranda is privileged by nature, as it has given the sea and the mountain, the typical Mediterranean climate and the beautiful landscape, the deep and clean sea and the naturally iodized atmosphere. Saranda has 300 days of sunshine a year, 300 hours of sunshine a month.
During the summer Saranda turns into a seasonal capital and a favorite tourist destination for most Albanians and hundreds of thousands of foreign tourists.
Tourism is also a competition to attract as many tourists as possible. In this sense Saranda is less favored, as in front of it, there is a large tourist center, the island of Corfu.
The tourist influx has been under increase. Saranda was attended during 2019 by about 900 thousand visitors from more than 100 countries of the world where a significant weight was occupied by Russian, Czech and Polish tourists.
The Municipality says that from the calculations made, it is about 1 million euros, collected in the budget of the Municipality as a financial effect of the season. About 5,500 hotel beds are registered here, but there are also over 12 thousand beds in second homes. Accommodation units are still being built on the coast but also in the inner part of the city.
During 2020, in complete isolation from the land and sea Saranda had the opportunity to make significant investments in infrastructure that, in a period of influx, would have disturbed tourism. Saranda is expected to have an increase in the number of visitors by 20% compared to 2020. In 2020, new trends of visitors from the Nordic countries were expected that would postpone the season until the end of October. Saranda also had booked for 2020 over 140 cruise ships.
In a normal situation, the tourist season kicks off in April and lasts until the end of October. Saranda is preferred on weekends by foreign tourists coming from Greek border towns. Another category, about 60%, are those representing domestic tourism.
The feasibility study and the project of Saranda airport have already been made, while in Limion, a new yacht port is going to be built and about 300 ha of area has been taken with a 1 euro contract to build a complete tourist complex.
Saranda is a small paradise offering to the tourists all the conditions to spend a wonderful vacation like the beaches with small natural stones, a wonderful blue sea, traditional food, as well as with extraordinary landscapes that leave you breathless.
