Today marks a special day in Albania's air service. At Kukës airport, the testing of landing the planes has started. The news was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, who said that there is only one month left from the day when the first flight is expected to take place. "Today is a special day as it is the first time that a plane will land for the first time, after all the changes and all the very fast, serious and professional quality work that has been done," said Balluku.
Kukes Airport is named "Zajed bin Sultan" and is the second civil airport in Albania. Kukes Airport is named after former President Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates.
Construction of this airport began in May 2002. This airport covers an area of about 65 hectares, 3 kilometers from the city of Kukes, and is of international category C. According to the construction project, at this airport is planned to land up to 5 planes at a time. The airport is equipped with all means of airspace control.
