The Council of Ministers has approved the concession contract with the consortium Mabetex, YDA Group and 2A group for starting the construction of Vlora airport. The contract was signed a month ago by Infrastructure Minister Belinda Balluku and representatives of the winning companies, while its formalization was expected by the government to enter into force to be implemented.
According to the concession agreement, the work is expected to start within 14 months, a period which envisages the complete environmental and operational study of the runway, as it is located near the protected area of Narta Lagoon.
The works, meanwhile, are expected to be completed 2 years after the field study was conducted, in September 2024. Under the contract, the winning companies will invest 103.9 million Euros and will receive for 35 years its management, providing income through airport fares.
Vlora Airport will also serve as a base for the Air Albania aircraft fleet, while for the first time there will be a special area for aircraft maintenance, a new service required by foreign companies.
The concession is based on the formula: construction-operation-transfer, where the investment will be private, while the state budget undertakes to guarantee the minimum income in the first 10 years if they will be lower than 140 million Euros. The location is in the area of Akërnia in Vlora, 10 minutes away from the national axis Levan-Vlora.
