European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the bloc would distribute 200 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine to non-EU countries by the middle of next year.
"Our first and most urgent priority is to accelerate global vaccination," von der Leyen said in her annual address to the bloc.
The EU has already pledged to distribute 250 million doses of the vaccine. At the end of last month, 70 per cent of adult EU citizens had been fully vaccinated.
But von der Leyen said she was concerned about different vaccination rates among EU member states.
In her speech, she also mentioned the countries of the Western Balkans and the EU enlargement process.
