For the first time in Albania, active and passive electoral corruption will be under the jurisdiction of the SPAK. As less than a month separates us from the April 25 parliamentary elections, the SPAK and the US have intensified co-operation to guarantee free voting and avoid electoral crimes.
Two senior US experts have trained SPAK prosecutors and judges, offering the most sophisticated practices for detecting electoral crimes.
"To help Albania maintain electoral integrity, the OPDAT Senior Adviser against International Corruption, Constantine Soupious, and the Director of the Electoral Crimes Branch of the Public Integrity Sector of the Criminal Division, Richard Pilger from the Department of Justice, conducted a training yesterday for SPAK judges and prosecutors.
The American instructors discussed with SPAK the best practices, types of electoral crimes, involving ethics , how to maintain independence, media coverage regarding allegations of fraud and the difference between mistakes in the administration of the process and real crimes," announced the American embassy.
