Varhelyi: EU should hold the First Intergovernmental Conference with Albania

The Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Olivér Várhelyi, stated today that Albania has met all the conditions for holding the First Intergovernmental Conference. Since it is moving strongly, with the Constitutional Court, with the Supreme Court, we have already reached the right place. So, from our side, the assessment that we are giving to the EU member states is that everything has already been fulfilled for the First Intergovernmental Conference, ie all the criteria ", said Varhelyi.
Regarding the distribution of vaccines, Varhelyi said that many countries are facing difficulties in securing the vaccine against COVID, adding that the EU has not forgotten the Balkans and is working with COVAX. He stressed that there will be distribution of the Astrazenca vaccine in Albania. "We mobilized immediately and brought significant support for the Balkans, for COVID, for me I think it is our contribution to the economic recovery after CPVID, Europe wants to be part of the recovery in the Western Balkans, today we talk about whether we have vaccines and as you have seen and the member states have problems with this and we have not forgotten the Western Balkans, we are working day and night to get the vaccines and deliver them to these regions and we are working not only with COVAX and I am telling you that I will have a first distribution from Astrazenica, and we are also working on our own initiative, to bring help where it is needed. We have noticed how this Stabilization and Association Agreement has been implemented. Albania will soon have elections, we expressed the hope that the elections will be free and fair and we will have the first test of Albanian democracy and after the elections to continue working. We encourage Albania not to stop working even during the campaign.  "It's about opening negotiations." he said.
